A paper about a particular issue in Islam writing homework help

1. Select a specific topic. For example, “The permissibility of homosexual marriage,” not “Sexuality in Islam.” Or “Vegetarianism in Islam,” not “Animals in Islam,” etc. Ensure that your topic is specific enough to answer in 4-5 pages while addressing the points below. If you have difficulty in choosing a topic, consult with the professor.

2. Identify at least 2 points of view on your topic from the available materials (see 3 and 4 below).

a. Present each view, and provide the supporting ethical arguments for each.

b. Compare the two positions and analyze their similarities and differences. Are they using the same sources, but with different interpretations? Are they using different sources? Why do they reach their differing conclusions?

3. Use as your sources our assigned readings for the course and the items on course reserve at Cook Library or available through eBrary as listed below under “Resources for a Short Paper on a Practical Issue.” Use at least 2 difference sources from this group. Give yourself enough time to read and take notes on the items on reserve, or make photocopies or take pictures of the chapters you need.

4. Find one scholarly journal article on your topic and use that as your third (or more) source. To find articles, go to the Cook Library website and click on “Need Help?” at the topic. Then click on “Find Articles for My Research Topic.” If you absolutely cannot find a relevant scholarly journal article, you may use a chapter from an academic book instead. Do not use websites as one of these three core sources. If you use them at all, only do so to demonstrate different believers’ or religious organizations’ views on the topic. Do not assume they are unbiased, scholarly sources.

Length: 4-5 double-spaced pages

Font/margins: 12 point font, 1 inch margins, and use page numbers

Citations: Provide a citation for every point you make that is not purely your own. Put the citation in parenthesis after the text or idea you are citing. Use the author’s name, date of publication, and the page number(s). If you are using several ideas from the same grouping of pages of an author, you can just provide one citation (including the range of pages you are considering) for all of them.
